This year’s 4th of July was so fun! My Dad and Deb were in town for the weekend, who we haven’t seen since last Fall – so it was extra special to have them down from Nor Cal for the 4th. It was surprising to see how quickly Alexa adapted to having them here – but what a relief! She immediately went into "sharing" mode with her toys, and by the weekend was saying "C'mon Papa" and grabbing his finger to go with her to play. SO cute.
Although this 4th (for the first time) didn’t involve any fireworks (we didn’t think Alexa would deal with them too well.), we had a great time at the local Belmont Shore Bike Parade put on by the fabulous Justin Rudd. We have lived in or by the shore for so long and yet had never been there for this. We decorated the bikes the day before – piling up all the flags and garlands that our arms could carry out the door of the party store. And it was just a very fun, easy thing to do in the morning of the 4th. You can leisurely get there around 10am, the huge parking lot was free, and the entire route was 2 miles along the beach path. The decorations on everyone’s bikes were so cool!! Faces painted, huge hats, and of course all the crazy bikes. This was a Justin Rudd event and there were tons of bikes that were donated to children who didn't have one.
After the bike parade, we headed to the beach in hopes that the sun would eventually come out – and luckily it did. Skyler spent the whole day making treasures in the sand with Papa and running out into the water. Neither girl was afraid to just run right down into the waves either. Yay! Although we were hoping that Alexa might sleep in her little tent, she decided there was too many fun things to do instead.
Side note - The day before, poor Sky was just trying to be a kid and roll around on the grass at the park, when she was stung by a bee. Poor girl – she was screaming, and just beside herself. We had to go home, with tears the whole way. Luckily, after being home for a while, she got over it pretty quick after icing it for 20 minutes. I told her she was a part of a special club, made up only of those people who have been stung by bees. She decided that she better get a bee costume since she is now part of this club. Lol.
I hope everyone is having a great summer and had a wonderful 4th of July!
